The Newbie Guide to Seminyak Bali

The classy district of Seminyak offers great restaurants, fantastic shopping and sizzling nightlife. If you’re looking to escape the rowdy streets of Kuta and think that Canggu is too remote, you can just think of Seminyak as that third bowl of porridge – just right. Check out our picks for getting most out of your stay here.

Accommodation

Seminyak is home to a seemingly endless array of hotels and resorts of varying size and quality. Though the likes of ritzy W Retreat dominate the shoreline, there are more affordable options avail-able as well – you just have to know where to look. M Boutique Hostel is one of Seminyak’s best kept secrets. This charming property offers comfortable rooms at a great price, right in the heart of bustling Jalan Petitenget.

Dining

Jalan Kayu Aya is known as Seminyak’s “eat street” and it really does house some of the best res-taurants in Bali. Try iconic Ultimo for delicious Italian food or head on over to Earth Cafe to sample some organic treats. Our favourite place to hang is Revolver Coffee, tucked away in a little al-leyway. This dimly lit coffee shop serves delicious coffee and killer desserts.

Shopping

When it comes to shopping, whatever you’re looking for, we guarantee you can find it in Seminyak. Most of the best stores can be found on and around Jalan Raya Seminyak. Head to Single Fin for surf gear and Drifters to pick up some holiday reading. Legendary Deus also has a store in Seminyak where you can pick up one of their iconic shirts. Even if you’re not that into shopping, Seminyak Village mall is worth visiting, as their rooftop terrace offers great views over the sur-rounding area.

Partying

Seminyak houses some of the most exclusive clubs in Bali. Unfortunately, this also means that a night out can easily swallow a big part of your budget. But even if you’re not looking to spend a small fortune on drinks and dinner, there are several more affordable options tucked away in these streets.

The Straw Hut is hidden away on the winding street of Jalan Sari Dewi, but the place is well worth the effort. This laid-back restaurant has an outdoor pool, delicious drinks and yep, an actual straw hut to top it off.

One of our absolute favorite venues in Seminyak is Hank’s Pizza & Liquor on Jalan Kayu Aya. As the name suggests, you can expect great pizza and a stiff drink to go with it. The place also hosts great live music. Our favorite part though? If you snap a selfie at the bar and share it on Instagram, you’re treated to a free shot. Let the good times roll!
