5 Best Surf Bars in Bali

The Best Surf Bars in Bali

It’s been said before but we’ll say it again – Bali is a surfer’s paradise. The Island of the Gods has been blessed with amazing beaches, killer waves – and some of the coolest bars around. Check out these spots for good vibes and good times. You can soak up the atmosphere even if you don’t surf.

Single Fin – Jalan Mamo, Uluwatu

Even if you’re not staying in Uluwatu, Single Fin is worth making the hilly drive for. You’ll be rewarded with stunning cliffside views overlooking the ocean. We can’t think of a better spot for catching some live music or dancing the night away to the DJs spinning at the decks. Single Fin is just a stone’s throw away from spectacular beaches and if you grab a seat out on the balcony, you can catch the lineup. So grab a beer and a pizza, sit back and relax. Watch the sun drop into the ocean and take a moment to look at the big picture.

Alleycats – Poppies Lane 2, Kuta

When you want to get down and dirty and have no patience for posers and hipsters, head on over to Alleycats. This no-nonsense bar is located in rowdy Kuta, tucked away in Poppies Lane 2. This bar covers all the basics: cold beer, pool tables, loud music and plenty of room to roam. Mind you, it does get crowded as the night wears on so grab a seat early on. The Swedish meatballs and mashed potatoes are legendary.

La Plancha – Jalan Mesari Beach, Seminyak

The swanky neighborhood of Seminyak is dotted with ritzy clubs and high-end restaurants, but if you’re looking for a more laid-back affair, head on over to the beach. La Plancha is hard to miss. Just look out for the rainbow coloured bean bag chairs sprawled right onto the sand, grab a beer from the bar and chill out right on the water. The place also does a mean barbecue.

Deus Ex Machina – Temple of Enthusiasm – Jalan Batu Mejan No. 8, Canggu

A legend, an icon, an institution. These are all words you could use to describe Deus without exaggerating, as this place really does have it all. You can pick up a custom motorbike, a new surfboard or clothes with some serious street cred. There’s also a bar, a restaurant, an art space and a stage which hosts legendary Sunday night jams in the backyard garden. Oh, and did we mention the skateboard ramps and the barbershop? The slogan says it all: Get here and you’ll understand.

Old Man’s – Batu Bolong Beach Front, Canggu

Just a hop and skip from Deus, Old Man’s is right on the beach with plenty of room to roam. The place offers irresistibly relaxed vibes and casual beachy interior. It’s the kind of place that’s just as suitable for a lazy Sunday brunch with the folks as it is for a rowdy Saturday night with your friends. The psychedelic murals on the wall alone are well worth the trip, as they offer unbeatable photo-ops, as a quick Instagram search will demonstrate. You can easily while away an entire day here, sipping a young coconut, watching surfer babes emerge from the waves like modern-day mermaids. Just read the mural: You should have been here yesterday.
